Glass Art
For an artist glass is a unique material. There is no other medium that brings out colour as brilliant as glass. And the colours appear different depending on the time of day or where you place them. There is glorious morning sunshine, or evening light that effects the colour.
Most of my recent stained glass pieces have a coloured agate slice integrated in the design. I like the contrast of the manmade glass and its even colouring and the natural structure in the agate.
And the work itself is a pleasure to me, creating the design, cutting the glass and joining it all together. This work has been done the same way for a very long time and here it is combined with modern shapes. And there is that sense of making something that will last longer than I will live.
I offer various glass objects - commissioned work, light boxes, tea lights and suncatchers.
With the light boxes I wanted to do a design that is not part of a house, but something to be put in different places, something you can bring with you should you move house. The boxes are intended to sit on a windowsill so that the light can shine through and do its magic. Notice the changes with the time of day and the variations in the daylight. If you have a window with plants it looks wonderful to have the coloured glass sitting amongst all the green. The designs are inspired by nature and where an agate is used, its the structure of the stone that inspires the design.
Stained Glass Designs with an electrical light source will be available soon.
Some of my work is currently on display in the Cong Art Gallery in Cong, Co. Mayo, in the Russell Gallery in Newquay in Co. Clare, in the Blueberry Gallery in Limerick, in the Gallery 53 in Capel Street in Dublin and in The Black Cat Gallery in Galway.
