Courses
In the spring of 2008 I organized the charity project "A Light in the Dark" in aid of blind and visually impaired people. Part of the project was a series of glass workshops. The participants and I had so much fun that I decided to build a studio and to offer classes on a regular basis.
The studio is a lovely timber house with a view of the sea. Due the size of the studio the number of participants is limited to four. With such a small group there is always a lovely atmosphere and everybody can have my full attention.
I offer various techniques in glass design and it is the participants choice what they would like to do. There is copper foil technique that was first introduced by the Art Nouveau Designer Louis Comfort Tiffany. Glass pieces are cut to shape and then the edges are covered in copper foil. The separate pieces are put together and soldered along the copper foil lines.
Another technique very suitable for beginners is the sandwich mosaic. Here glass pieces are cut and grinded according to the design and then inserted between two glass panes and sealed.
Then there is stained glass design with lead cames as it is done for centuries. Those pieces are called leadlights.
You can make tea lights, suncatchers, mirrors or your own design for your window or door at home.
